Geek Of The Week: CEO Of Dedrone, Jorg Lamprecht

Dedrone is a san Francisco based private company which focuses on providing companies with application software solutions for airspace security. The company helps in the development of an automated software platform which aids in the early detection of the presence of illegal civilian drones which could be an indication for possible threats to the airspace security.

Dedrones was founded in the year 2016 and has since risen to become one of the leading companies in the industry. As the CEO and co-founder of the company, Jorg Lamprecht has lead the company through a series of about four rounds of funding, with the company raising up to $15 million in the 2017 Series B funding level and its major investor being the Felicis Ventures. With its major competing companies being the likes of SkySafe, DroneShield And DroneLabs, the company is currently estimated to have a total of about $2 million revenue and about 100 employees in total.

Prior to founding and heading Dedrones as a company, Jorg has been known as a serial technological expert who has fully and successfully managed network arenas in both the United States and also the European countries. Jorg has previously co-founded a number of other companies including The Only Solutions GmbH which was later acquired by IBM and renamed as Cobion, he also cofounded a search engine called Qitera, and was also a co-founder of Aibotix which was bought by the Hexagon Group. He is a graduate of the University of Kassel, where he graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics.

Jorg gained his initial experience in drones for airspace security from his previous company, Aibotix, which was a known information technology solution provider in airspace security before its acquisition in 2014. According to the 50 years old CEO, ‘quite frankly, laws will not keep drones away. You know it is illegal to fly near an airport, but that doesn’t keep the drones away. The only thing that will stop drones is technology. And that is what we are here for.’ He believes that the best way to address this issue of airspace security breach with the use of drones is by using these drones as a safety measures through innovative technology and he is doing a great job at it.
