Welcome to our latest edition of Geek of the Week! This week, the editorial staff said they had little trouble in choosing the winner of this award. So let’s get right to it!
This week’s Geek of the Week winner is Diane Greene, co-founder of VMWare and current SVP at Google. And how could she not be?
With all due respect to the other nominees, Mrs. Greene promotion to lead Google’s cloud enterprise unit was huge news. Greene’s expertise will allow Google to navigate through the ever changing market of cloud computing. Greene’s years as an exec at VMware will help Google Cloud compete against industry giants such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
Additionally, with Greene at the helm of Google Cloud, consumers and businesses can expect the very best in cloud innovations to become available under the Google brand. Google believes that Diane Greene can help give its cloud unit the organizational prowess to rapidly deliver secured apps, data and infrastructure to its customers all around the world.
As for Mrs. Greene: where do we start? She has held various positions at SGI, EMC Ventures, Tandem Computers, Sybase, VXtreme and of course VMWare. She holds or has held a range of investments in Clinkle, CloudPhysics, Cumulus Networks, Nimbula, Unity Technologies, Rockmelt, and Cloudera. She holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont, Burlington, an M.Sc. in Naval Architecture from MIT and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley.
