Geek of the Week: Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google

Known as the leading search engine company, Google is an American based technology company with a lot of internet based products for its unending customer base. Services provided by this organization includes a number such as search engine, cloud computing services, amidst many others.

The organization was originally founded about 21 years ago by Larry Page and Sergery Brin, who were both Ph.D. students in the Stanford University, California as at that time. The company was initially a private held company before going public in 2004, the same year it moved to its California, Mountain View headquarters called the GooglePlex.

in 2015, plans were revealed to create a parent company called the Alphabet Inc. as result of its numerous products, making Google its leading subsidiary. because of this, the standing CEO of the organization was made the CEO of alphabet while Sundar Pichai was then announced as the new CEO of Google.  

The 46 years old CEO is a father of 2 children. He bagged his degree in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and also an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. On joining Google in 2004, Sundar has lead in a number of roles including leading the product management and innovation team in the production of some products such as the Chrome OS and also the Google Drive. He also contributed immensely to the addition of several new products before becoming the CEO.

The company has recorded a massive growth in the services it offers till date and it has started off a chain of products offered. The company also has quite a lot of web-based products it offers to its customers for various purposes, examples of which are Google scholar, Google assistant, Google translate, Google books, Google news, and many others. The company also provides other service such as advertising services, statistical tools, communication and publishing tools, map-related tools, development tools, security tools, and many other services like that, of which each has its own lists of products offered.

Known as the most visited online site worldwide, the organization was also rated as the 2017 most valuable brand in the world. The organization however also operates in a number of hardware services such as Google smartphones, Wi-Fi routers and a number of other hardware.

When asked how important the matter of use’s data security and privacy is to him, the 2018 Forbes world’s most reputable CEO replied, “it is the foundation of everything we do. Whenever we build anything new we start with, how do we, in a fundamental way, secure and the data give user’s privacy. I think we are sate of the art in terms of what we do to protect user’s data and give security to our users.”
