Geek of the Week: Bill Butcher

Some time ago, the CloudWedge team launched a feature called Geek of the Week. In this feature we award the prestigious honor of ‘Geek of the Week’ to someone from our news posts of that week that we feel have done something that deserves special mention or praise. This is either directly though their actions or those of their companies. This award is a certification of honor as the receiver is considered to be a ‘cloud leader.’

We are happy to announce this week’s Geek of the Week is Bill Butcher, the founder of Port City Brewing. We mentioned Butcher this week in reference to Port City Brewing’s adoption of the cloud for better management of brewery stocks and inventory through the use of an application called BeerRun. Through this application, employees at the brewery are able to monitor and log inventory data in just a few swipes.

We have decided to award Butcher with this award as he has been at the masthead of this move to the cloud. We were also impressed with his leadership that has shaped the brewery’s transformation from a small startup business in 2011 to the mature microbrewery that it is today.

Brewer graduated from James Madison University after which he went on to work in the wine business for 18 years. He started his move into the beer industry in 2008, doing research and collecting the money necessary to open the brewery.
