Geek of the Week: Sonny Hashmi

A few months ago we launched a feature called Geek of the Week. Every week, CloudWedge nominates a ‘Geek of the week’ to any cloud leader who has been in the news in the last week that we feel deserves special mention or praise.

We are happy to announce this weeks’ Geek of the Week is Sonny Hashmi, the Acting CIO for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). We quoted him in an article we wrote about how the GSA is leading the way for ‘government cloud’. We feel that he deserves this honor not only for the changes he is implementing within the GSA, but also the ripple effects that this will cause within the governmental infrastructure. His work within the GSA is centered around driving IT modernization and the multiple enterprise technology initiatives.

He is a self-proclaimed ‘Proud Multi-faceted Geek,’ and this is not his first cloud award. In 2013 he was awarded the 2013 Federal 100 award for Digital Government Innovation as a “cloud expander.”

Prior to joining the GSA, Sonny was the Deputy CIO for the District of Columbia Office of the CFO. He has a Master’s in engineering from Purdue University as well as a Master certificate in Innovation Management from the University of Maryland.
