Acronis is known for their disk management tools and their innovative data backup solutions. Acronis now has a cloud based file backup service thanks to their recent acquisition of BackupAgent. The purchase of the Holland based company was for an undisclosed amount and the deal comes on the heels of Acronis rolling out its new backup solution for Macs called Acronis True Image for Mac. It’s being reported that the employees and customers of BackupAgent will all fully transfer over to Acronis. Acronis is expected to mix in its AnyData Engine into the BackupAgent suite which will help to protect data integrity.
The press release covering the acquisition mentions, “Service providers will also benefit from the long-standing partnership between Acronis and Parallels, leveraging the full integration of BackupAgent solutions with Parallels Automation, empowering Parallels-enabled service providers to quickly deploy a cloud backup offering to their customers at a very low cost of entry.”
It appears that users who would like to try BackupAgent can do so for free for up to 30 days. BackupAgents website mentions that no credit card is needed to evaluate the service. BackupAgent’s website goes on to say, “BackupAgent empowers Managed Service Providers (MSPs), Hosting Providers, Telephone Companies(Telco’s) and Cloud Distributors to sell cloud backup to SMBs through a platform praised for its simplicity, private labeling, easy monitoring, scalability and extended plugins.”
The acquisition of BackupAgent allows Acronis to beef up its cloud offerings. TalkinCloud recently interviewed BackupAgent founder Roland Sars. In regards to deal, Sars said, “The Acronis cloud business unit is a strategic pillar for Acronis’ future growth, and the acquisition of BackupAgent provides Acronis with an opportunity to expand the cloud business.”
Child Hilderbrand from Acronis commented on the deal saying, “Cloud is the primary strategic direction for the company, and acquisition of BackupAgent allows Acronis to quickly gain active partner network of cloud backup providers, as well as get an engineering team with extensive expertise in cloud.”
