Most likely, Google is using a reiteration of its Cloud Vision API that can extract the contents of a picture with great precision, converting that image into a search term. The revolutionary technology allows the contents of a picture to be processed in the cloud, giving developers another tool that they can use to innovate products of the future.
How Google Cloud Vision API Works
Let’s say you have a scenic photograph of a mountain and a river. The Google Cloud Vision API could process this image and return a value of “Mountains” and “River” or “Water” along with an accuracy score.
Developers could implement this type of logic into decision making applications and devices. For example, a camera could be setup to a take a picture at a regular interval and the Google Cloud Vision API could be used to process that picture.
Once developers have the photo, they can gain actionable data on that photo. When a photo returns a specific value, the developer can have the application trigger a specific task. In the future, this process automation feature could give businesses the upper hand on processing data intelligently.
“During the beta timeframe, each user will have a quota of 20 million images/month,” reads the Google Cloud Platform Blog.
“As such, Cloud Vision API is not intended for real-time mission critical applications. You can access the documentation, with samples and tutorials showing usage of the API in Python and Java1, along with mobile app samples for Android and iOS,” adds the blog.
Websites could even implement the technology to automatically moderate against obscene images being posted into an online community.
