It seems like cloud backup companies are a dime a dozen. So how do you choose the right one? You will most likely hear people say “the one with the most features wins” or “security is key.” While these are no doubt extremely crucial when choosing an online backup service, the one factor people should look at is if the cloud company they are looking into is innovative. We came across Asigra and at first didn’t quite realize what a gem of a company they are. Many cloud companies are innovative, specifically in regard to features or usability. Asigra took another innovative path that turned out to be a successful decision when they decided to also focus on backup solutions for mobile devices.

Features
Before we get to a list of features, we would like to expand on their various backup solutions. Aside from standard computer file backups, Asigra really emphasizes their innovative backup software for your mobile devices. Without delving into this, it is clear that this is a game changer as most people store many important files such as pictures and videos on their mobile devices. If you are a business looking for a backup solution, you will be quite impressed as well. As per their website, “Asigra is the first end-to-end enterprise platform that consolidates backup processes and restores customer data within minutes across the entire IT environment.” Not only does this consolidation and restoration include servers and desktops but it also includes mobile devices and virtual machines. That said, here is a list of some of Asigra’s key features:
- Deduplication
- CDP (Continuous Data Protection)
- Silent mode installation
- Agentless cloud backup
- Automation setup, configuration and protection
- State of the art security
- Asigra recovery tracker
- Replication
These features are clearly not the same as other cloud providers and Asigra’s innovation truly shows here. Their technology simplifies cloud backup and it works with any platform including Windows, Mac or Linux. We would also like to point out that Asigra is exceptionally adaptable. According to their website, “Asigra Cloud Backup can adapt to the specific elements of any backup and recovery strategy, including public, private and hybrid cloud environments.”
Ease of Use
Before we tested Asigra, we must admit we thought it would be considerably hard to use considering they offer unique features and software. If you were to look through their website, you will not find one feature that is the same as a service like MyPCBackup. Our assumption was completely wrong. Asigra’s cloud backup services over 550,000 sites worldwide and they have over 26 years of experience. As stated above, their technology quite literally “simplifies cloud backup” as they claim on their website. From individuals with no experience to IT professionals, you will find that Asigra is a leader in usability and experience. While the cPanel or vDeck control panels that are offered by other online backup services are great, if you are an IT professional, Asigra is for you. Everything is custom built to perfection. Moreover, backing up files from a mobile device has been the best experience we have encountered.

Pricing
There is no mention of price on their website except for a ‘request pricing’ section. There you will find an online form in which you will need to request a quote from them. To be honest, we were upset by this at first. It is extremely standard to set pricing on your website. However, we truly believe this strategy is so bold that it is brilliant, and most probably played a role in Asigra becoming a leader in the cloud backup industry.
Security
While we were originally impressed by the security of well branded online backup companies like JustCloud, we were stunned when we stumbled across Asigra. By now, anyone who is somewhat familiar with the cloud industry has heard of the Dropbox hack job. This would never happen with a company like Asigra. We were under the impression that IBM came out with a new software roughly 2 months ago that encrypts your data pre transfer. This was game changing technology and everyone was blown away. It turns out Asigra has security like this for much longer. With Asigra, they encrypt your data in flight and naturally once it is stored. They employ FIPS 140-2 which is a strict obligation for cryptographic modules. You can also choose to encrypt your data with DES 56-bit with an 8-character key or AES 256-bit with a 32-character key. To date, they have experienced zero security breaches in over 26 years of existence.
Customer Support
Asigra’s customer support is second to none. While they push email support as the first option, you will also have the ability to call a designated customer service representative once you sign up for a plan. As in personalized account management. There are no wait times over the phone and email wait times are generally under 3 hours – tops in the industry.
Summary
Asigra is great for anyone looking for a cloud storage provider, however if you are a business, we strongly recommend Asigra. Their incredibly unique features coupled with their top of the line security makes them an all-around first class choice.
