Memset Review

Memset was founded in 2002, by CEO Kate Craig-Wood and her brother Nick above their mum’s garage. Over the last 12 years, Memset has now grown massively and is located at the leading environmental hub in Dunsfold Park, Cranleigh, Surrey. Memset has also establish themselves as a green hosting provider, and they achieve this with their Carbon Neutral certification as well as their membership with the EU code of conduct for datacenters. They offer a wide variety of features and a great customer support service. We would recommend them to Medium to Enterprise sized businesses.

Features

Memset offers several flexible different server packages on a scalable pricing model. However, for this review, we will only be looking at their enterprise managed hosting services. If you wish to know more about any of their other services, you can view the offerings on their site. They offer 5 different packages on a sliding scale from VM4000- 2U 2x Oct-Core servers. All packages include: an IP address, a fully managed SLA, unlimited backups, advanced monitoring, and a managed firewall. Other features include:

  • Processors from 2x Virtual Xeon to 2x Oct Xeon
  • Two to sixteen CPU cores
  • Clock speed from 0.40 GHz-2.0Ghz
  • 2-96 GB RAM min, with 2-192 GB Ram max
  • Disks range from 90GB- 8×240 GB SSD
  • Fast disk transaction speeds (40-800 transactions/second)
  • 90GB-24000 GB usable disk space

They also provide a full range of Windows and Linux software support across installation, configuration and troubleshooting. For security, all traffic is navigated through Gigabit Linux Hardware Firewalls so you are in control over the settings you want in place. Additionally, they provide full spam and anti-virus protection measures and install the software on your behalf so you don’t need to worry about it.

Customer Support

Memset really shines with their 24/7/365 customer support. They not only provide a UK free phone number, but they also have email support that is monitored during standard UK working hours. Their standout component however is their emergency support. In such instances, you have two modes of contact. First, an emergency SMS service for all customers with the fully managed SLA is available 24/7/365. Second, the above phone number may be used during normal UK working hours for emergency issues. If that isn’t enough, any complains aren’t directed to some unmonitored email address and never opened. Rather, they put the Managing Directors personal email address on their site so you can be confident your voice will be heard.

Ease of Use

Getting started takes anywhere between 20 minutes to 3 days lead time from payment. After that, the process was pretty straightforward. The control panel is excellent and extremely easy to navigate, and Memset uses Centos for its virtual and dedicated server offerings. If you are still unsure if this is the service for you, Memset offers a 7 day to one month cancellation period depending on the type of package you signed on for. Additionally, Memset provides full disaster recovery measures with options for full or partial backups so regardless of why your site went down, your site will never be totally lost.

Reliability

As we can expect with a service of this caliber, Memset guarantee 99.95% single-site network uptime. We have looked around at what some users have to say about this and have not seen anything to the contrary.

Summary

Memset are the web hosting equivalent of your right hand man. They have a service that is not only extremely well designed so it is easy to navigate, but it also has an extremely impressive array of features for the most fine-tuned hosting experience. Their customer support not only efficiently handles day to day issues, but particularly shines in a crisis situation. We would be happy to recommend this service to all enterprise businesses.
