Looking at any SafeCopy review will pretty much tell you the same shpiel. A relatively unknown provider with a small team that is a division of CirrusApps LLC. With SafeCopy what you see is what you get. California based SafeCopy Backup were founded in 2009 and made their mark in the online backup industry with their good security services. It is important to note that like many other providers, they provide a free trial so you can check out what you are in for before committing to the service. However, while SafeCopy is a decent service, we would recommend testing a free trial on a major online backup provider like Dropbox.
The standout feature for this service is their de-duplication. De-duplication is an extremely valuable feature. If you save the same file in different places, SafeCopy Backup integrate it into one file, which means that editing the file in one location will update in the others. This not only saves you the hassle of keeping track of what files you have updated where, but it also saves you valuable storage space. Other features include:
- Unlimited archiving
- File versioning
- Mac and Windows capabilities
- Auto throttle
- Private email links
Ease of Use
Installation was a straightforward process; just provide a few personal details and you are ready to go. It is important to note that you do not need to provide your credit card to download the free trial. Once installed, you can easily upgrade to a full account whenever you are ready. Their dashboard is intuitively laid out. There are five tables on the side bar containing: Files, Photos, Last Updated, Favorites, and Shares. At the bottom of the sidebar there is an InfoBar indicating how much space you have left and a button underneath it to buy more storage space. Backups can be set to an automatic schedule. All you need to do is set your preferences (to daily, weekly or monthly,) and you can get on with your life in no time.
SafeCopy Backup Dashboard
SafeCopy takes a bold move with their prices packages. They offer four storage packages per year: 200GB for $50.00, 300GB for $70.00, 500GB for $150.00 and 1 Terabyte for $350.00 USD.
SafeCopy Backup only falls short with their customer support. Though they have a thorough FAQ section with video tutorials, they do not have livechat or phone support. They do, however, offer highly sufficient email support, and are available on their social media channels. There is also a forum but this is not well regulated and contains some spammy articles.
SafeCopy Backup really shines with their security. They provide an amazing 448-bit Blowfish encryption during storage. Additionally, they provide 128-bit encryption during transfer, which is the same level of encryption used by most financial organizations such as your bank. Files are encrypted pre-transfer for that extra level of security, and your password is not stored on the SafeCopy Backup servers. This is good and bad. The advantage to this is that SafeCopy Backup employees cannot see what you are storing and no one can access it but you. The downside however is that if you lose you password, your files are lost forever.
SafeCopy Backup offers only an adequate array of features and a sufficient customer support service. They have great security and their free trial lets you test drive the service.
